I actually stopped by Euro Tech a few months back after I purchased a preowned Boxster. I noticed the check engine light on, and Arty (referenced often in these posts) told me to bring it in. Jose (the main technician I think) took a look at the car and told me what he thought could be the problem even though the computer wasn't formally registering that I had a faulty purge valve. Jose reset the dash, and politely sent me along my way with no charge. Of course if it came on again, he could definitely confirm that it is in fact the purge valve. I was very happy to have spoken directly with the mechanic that looked at my car. Sure enough, last week I received the dreaded check engine light again, and on top of that I noticed a squawking sound every time I started the car for about 2 weeks or so. I called Arty, who promptly told me to bring it in. No appointment needed. Again Jose took a look at the car, and came back in within 10 minutes of me pulling up, and gave Arty the bad news. I was sitting right there on the couch, so I'm not sure why they didn't talk to me directly, but whatever, I was checking my blackberry. I was happy for the fast diagnosis. Verdict: faulty purge valve as originally suggested and I needed a brand new starter. Bummer. I agreed to the charges, which seemed reasonable given what I needed to have fix. Still it was hard to part with $1000 around the holidays, but like some other reviewers have stated...you know what you're getting into if you decide to buy a luxury vehicle. Labor is $100/hour, which is standard. Overall, Arty was a pleasure to work with...very clear, helpful, professional, and charming. The only thing that I didn't respond well to was his use of the word "about." So I think I just have to be more aggressive in pushing for firm figures. A nice associate named Johnny gave me a ride to and from the shop, which was helpful, and I'm sure I talked his ear off, but he was friendly. I felt like my car was in really good hands, and the next week when I needed a new gas cap...I happily called in, and Arty remembered who I was. He got me all set up within 10 minutes. I might test out another European auto shop on Yelp just to be sure that I'm with the right guys...but after one major repair, I'm really pleased with the overall experience.
